- Illustrated ficlet - The Painting and the Ghost, by firefly-wp, worksafe Snarry. Scroll down to read ficlet in the Artist's Comments. Omg, happy bittersweet goosebumbs. Wow.
- Also by firefly-wp, Lessons Learned, worksafe, ambiguous HP/?? pairing. I want to let you draw your own conclusions, but check out one of her later works in a similar pose: A Lesson in Flying, also worksafe.
- A face for Neville Longbottom, by
lysa1, worksafe, grown Neville, sexy, but still Neville, and downright edible.
-The Dark Lord Voldemort by Harry-Potter-Spain, just cracked me up. Very worksafe.
- A more serious work by the same artist, Kill Me, the vividness of the surroundings is absolutely breathtaking. The entire piece is in monochromatic green just like the Scholastic HBP cover, like an expansion of that blurry scene. Technically worksafe, but very spoilery for your coworkers if they happen to see it.
- Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape, by Ravnheart, both worksafe and HBP spoiler-free. Very rich color and sharp detail taken to an extreme that can only be called luxurious.

Art:
- Chains, by
nebulaean. NC-17, SS/HP, "wank, bondage, non-con.. kinda! everything's open to interpretation." Not worksafe.
- Snape, by
ledivinemarquis, not worksafe. Very uncanon, very Rickman, very sexy Snape, two versions, one in color and the other black and white (pen or pencil? Can't tell).
Fic:
- Furry Little Problem, by
arionrhod and
scribbulus_ink, NC-17, RL/BW, "During the first full moon following his attack, Bill Weasley has some startling revelations." 5214 words.
I'm thinking about adopting a new lj ID, so I can keep the post-HBP material separate from the pre-HBP because I've made such a mess of my memories and it would take forever to edit them all. The keyword system tends to fail me at around four hundred or so entries. No, I'm not exaggerating, not a bit. Good God, how did I ever...? What a mess.
02:19 am
Hi all,
I'm back. Finally read HBP last week, been slowly re-acquainting myself with fandom since then. I tried something I'd never done before while reading HBP - I kept a journal, where I jotted down speculations, observations and such. One of my regrets about PoA was that I can't remember when I first began to suspect all was not as it seemed, in order to learn from Rowling's plotting process. In the journal I attempted to highlight suspected foreshadowing and just be as honest as possible about my impressions. Too often I failed, as when I suspected Lupin/Tonks, but didn't dare to hope, much less record. I don't like being wrong, and I lost a potential part of my journal for it.
I have yet to type up the journal, it's a good seven or eight pages long, handwritten in rushed script, but I will do my very best to restrain my corrections to spelling, grammar, and mild formatting issues. I apologise in advance for it's lack of coherency, because I know I was far more interested in reading than in clairity at some points.
May I bounce a theory off of ya'll? Forgive me if someone's already posted something similar, but could Regulus Black have been the "R.A.B" in the locket? I don't remember exactly what Sirius said about his death, but I am relatively sure we don't know Regulus' middle name. Anybody willing to poke holes in this?

12:20 am - fic rec: Defence Against the Dark Creature, by Allemande
Those of you who know me may be aware that I maintain a rarely-violated personal policy of not reccing WiPs. I'm sure many of them are wonderful, but often the desire to recommend them seems to stem from the promise of their premise, and not from their actual execution.
I've wanted to recommend Defence Against the Dark Creature ever since I read the first few available chapters. Begun way back in 2002, it was with great joy that I discovered it recently finished. Worth every minute of the long wait, this fic boasts vibrant characters, convincing settings, and a delicious outside-the-box approach. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Author's summary: "After a long and fruitless job hunt, Remus becomes a teacher for lycanthropic children - and in the process of getting to know and trying to help them, he is soon struggling with his very own demons."
Defence Against the Dark Creature, by Allemande, gen (with hints of het), PG? Not written as, but effectively AU after the publication of OotP, however, all possible effort appears to have been made to make this compliant with the information from that new canon.

(I thought this was going to be...) Just a quick rec:
- Take it Anyway, by
shaggydogstail, Remus/Sirius, NC-17, bondage, S&M, shagging, rimming, DT. I don't know what "DT" stands for, but it didn't squick me. Yummy. Sirius provokes Remus into dominating him. Very yummy.
Went through my memories a bit to find some that I promised myself I'd rec later...
- Cycles, by
dazzleberry, RL/SS, PG-13. Very, very sweet. This one reduced me to a quivering puddle of flangst. "Every month for the last three years, Snape and Lupin have played a game wherein Lupin must humble himself to request that Snape graciously brew his Wolfsbane. This month, though, Snape changes the rules."
- Who Are You, by
manraviel, RL/SS, NC-17. "Remus doesn't remember who Severus is. But Severus believes that one day he will. He believes because he has to." Snape cares for amnesiac!Remus. More flangst. I like flangst.
- Actually... yeah. I think it's time for me to hit the sack. Night, ya'll.

10:56 pm - Skyehawke account, stories archived.
Oh squee. Can we say squee?
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! *flails*
musigneus got me a Skyehawke account! Much, much love.
The formatting gave me some problems, but I think I've got it figured out. Crash course in more html. Who woulda thunk I'd use that stuff I learned in school? *snicker*
So anyway, I've got them up in chronological order of writing. I was a bit dismayed to realise, when listing the fics I wanted to archive, that every single one had Remus as part of the pairing. Is it possible for me to write anything without him? I don't mind, really; I love him, but I'm a worrywart.
I have discovered semicolons! And the abuse thereof; somebody stop me. Anybody? *cackles*

Bad week, very bad week, followed by an internet-less week (computer in the shop again), but much, much better, because my brother is back in Richmond, where he can stay until he graduates, and welcome. I can. not. believe. I asked him to come home for break. It was a nightmare. He was a nightmare. Way too emotionally exhausted even now to go into details.
My apologies to everyone I let down and/or left hanging during this time, but especially to one
velyrhorde, for whom I was supposed to beta. The man is a sweetheart, and he doesn't deserve that sort of thing.
I'm not even going to try to read two weeks' worth of flist, even if it were possible with the skip-999 (or whatever it is) limit, but if anyone needs me for something, let me know, yah?
On the upside (there's an upside?), some of you may recall what happened last time I was without internet for a long period of time. Fic! *waves papers* Some started, so-so. All handwritten.

Title: Whole
Author:
goldennotblonde
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Harry/Remus (post-Hogwarts)
Warnings: Cross-generational, bondage (consensual), slight D/s, rimming, CBT (orgasm denial).
Disclaimer: Harry Potter is so not mine. I'll give him back later.
Summary blurb: The relationship between Harry and Lupin has always been strictly "vanilla," but the traumatic results of a DMLE mission gone awry prompt them to employ methods they would not otherwise have considered.
Note 1: This is not a BDSM fic, although hopefully it is sexy in the same way. It plays with the ambiguities present in consensual D/s situations. Who is the dominant party, and who is the submissive? A dom has power because the sub gives it to them.
Note 2: Thanks to my wonderful betas -
seventines (also britpicker!), and
gblvr, without whom this fic would not be half what it is. You ladies rock my world.

Ten pages, handwritten, now I've got to type it all. Carpel tunnel, here we come. *facepalm*
My mom's been sick, so I've been leaving the computer be for a while and haven't been online much lately. Therefore... I have fic!
I love my filing system. Yes, I have a filing system now. It consists of a bunch of manila folders in a basket and a lot of paperclips. *eyes huge box of unfiled old fic scribbles* I don't think I would ever have picked this story up again if I hadn't had it so easily accessible and been so confident I hadn't lost any of it. I got (what I thought was) about halfway through before and had to stop; Harry was being mean to Remus and it made me sad.
Anyway... when I get this sucker typed up, would anyone be willing to beta it? *puppy eyes*
It's NC-17 consensual Harry/Remus, bondage, rimming, slight D/s and CBT (orgasm denial). I don't really know the word count yet, but I'm guessing between 3,000 and 5,000 words. I should have it ready to send off in a few hours, barring distractions.

11:06 pm - duels
This isn't too earth-shattering, but...
Rowling went to a lot of trouble in the first book to explain a Wizard's duel in a relatively harmless setting, and then the other duelist (Draco) never showed up. Yes, this accomplished several other things (like character development and the forbidden corridor discovery), but I think the rules Rowling laid down will come into more serious play in a later duel.
She made it look so trivial! An eleven-year-old boys' feud can't be taken too seriously, can it?
10:49 pm - "Final Battle, the"
There seems to be an expectation within fandom that there will be a single apocalyptic battle with Voldie and the Death Eaters at the end of Harry's seventh year. This expectation may be derived by readers from the pattern of events in the last five books and other (extensive!) literary analysis; however, I see no reason for the characters themselves to hold this view.
In chapter four of PS/SS Hagrid says: "Dark days, Harry. Didn't know who ter trust, didn't dare get friendly with strange wizards or witches... terrible things happened. He was takin' over. 'Course, some stood up to him -- an' he killed 'em. Horribly. One o' the only safe places left was Hogwarts. Reckon Dumbledore's the only one You-Know-Who was afraid of. Didn't dare try takin' the school, not jus' then, anyway."
... which could imply that he will in the future, but this is foreshadowing, something that registers with the reader as a stylistic thing, but not with the characters themselves.
The prophecy revealed to us in OotP gives them reason to believe that it is Harry who must one day defeat Voldemort or be defeated, resulting in a be-all-end-all confrontation, but not that: Sometime during Harry's seventh year (probably the last month or so), the Death Eaters will descend on Hogwarts, drawing out its staff, older students, and the Order into open battle, during which Harry will kill (or be killed by) Voldemort, possibly accompanied by much carnage and character death.
The final battle idea is fine... as a theory. I have no problem with that. But when a character voices this expectation in dialogue or narrative, referring to it as "the final battle," I get antsy.
Recently this literary crime was committed by a popular author whose work I very much love and respect, and it forced me to recognize just how prevalent this error (as perceived by me) is. It led me to attempt to address the issue.
Note that I say "attempt." By no means do I believe that I have adequately done so, and I look forward to reading your opinions on the subject.

Lj is so sloooow. *mopes*
Took me forever to come up with this list. I never woulda guessed it would be so difficult.
Ten things I've done that you probably haven't:
1. Sneaked multiple forbidden items (including several pounds of food and a pocketknife) past security at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, post-9/11.
2. Kicked my father in the balls (very much on purpose).
3. Baked twelve-plus pies* in one winter holiday season (Nov. - Dec.).
4. Snuck a can of catfood into the bathroom and tasted it. (Hey, my cat liked it!)
5. Been bitten by a squirrel whilst trying to feed it.
6. Made my own butter.
7. Walked over a nest of yellow jackets and only got stung twice.
8. Fell out of my dress onstage during rehearsal for a school play and didn't notice.
9. Cut my own hair. Not just bangs (fringe), all of it.
10. Gotten high off of nail polish remover by accident.
*I'm not really sure how many, but I know it was at least twelve.

Fic:
- Who Are You, by
manraviel, NC-17, Lupin/Snape. Slightly fluffy angst. "Remus doesn't remember who Severus is. But Severus believes that one day he will. He believes because he has to."
- Salvation the droolworthy sequel to Atonement, by
inell, both NC-17, warnings for some non-con, fisting, rimming, threesome, bloodplay, bondage, darkness and angst. Pairings: Bellatrix/Hermione/Rodolphus, Hermione/Voldemort/Bellatrix in the first, and Hermione/Voldemort, Hermione/Remus in the second. I liked the sequel better than the first (Remus!), but it might not have the same meaning as it would if it were grounded in the context of the first, which is good in its own right.
- A Library Encounter, also by
inell, hard R, Remus/James. "Sex with an "unknown" person, house tie bondage."

2. "Everything I know about sex I learned from porn."
3. "The Life and Travels of Stubby Boardman (aka/fka Sirius Black)"
4. Episode(s) from Riddle's pre-Hogwarts years in the Muggle orphanage.
5. Ron(or other Weasley) is/was just as prejudiced about werewolves as "Get away from me, werewolf!" sounded, but gets over it. How? May be smut but can also be gen.

When I was little, a babysitter made me sit in front of a dish of cold broccoli until I had "eaten my vegetables." I think I sat there until my mother got home.

11:39 am - The "I told you so" lists
On July 16th, 2005, JKR will pull the rug out from under countless theories, but out of so many, surely some have to be correct?
So stand and be counted! Tell fandom what you believe will happen before the series is out, and we'll see which of us was closest to the mark.
I will repost my list in a comment below so that I may prove it was not altered. Mind the dates on the comments and someone please remember to dig this up later, because I'll probably forget. Ditzy me.
Note: These are not my original theories, and they needn't be yours, just the ones you ascribe to.
1. Ron is a true Seer.
2. SITT BOI. 'Nuff said.
3. Neville, not Harry, will defeat Voldemort.
4. Harry is a metamorphmagus.
5. Fred and George will be instrumental in developing new inventions for use in the war.
6. Dumbledore will die.
7. Harry will live.
8. Frank and Alice Longbottom will be discovered to have been drugged all these years because they know something someone doesn't want people to know until it is convenient. Gum wrappers are a message.
9. Rita Skeeter is a man in drag. Has an alternate ego whom we (the reader) are already familiar with by the time we discover this.
10. Vampires will be important.
11. Crumple-horned Snorkacks do exist.
12. The Hogwarts graveyard will make an appearance.
13. Andromedea will make an appearance.
14. Ron and Hermione are soulmates.
15. Snape loved Lily Evans.
16. Mrs. Norris is a stuck animagus. I wonder who 'Mr. Norris' was, or is?

Fic:
- Compellation, and its sequel Affirmation, by
cruisedirector. Lupin/Snape, NC-17. Remus gets horny right before the full moon and likes the way Snape says his name. 'Warnings' for fluff, vanilla sex, and rimming.
- The Ice Queen, by
charlotteschaos, NC-17, Lucius/Narcissa, abuse, non-con, torture, odd insertion, 1,680 words. "Narcissa finds out about Lucius's affair with Snape."
charlotteschaos' Narcissa is awesome. She plays up the Black side of the character so very well. The fic is set outdoors in the snow, and you can almost smell the needle-sharp sting of the cold air. Alternate Skyhawke addy is here.
- to go wherever dreaming goes: a fairytale in three parts, by
nothingbutfic, Harry/Draco, some vague non-con, NC-17, 19,000 words in three parts. Draco loses his magic and Harry helps him acclimatise to the Muggle world. Technically I would not call this an AU because it is post-hogwarts and fits in with canon well enough, but the author has labelled it AU. Ah, well. Dreamy prose written in the present tense, flangst. Rec gacked from
charlotteschaos.
- Inside the Rain, written by
arionrhod and illustrated by
ildi_bp, 17,145 words in two parts. Snape/Lupin, R. "While in hiding, Severus receives an unexpected visitor." Arionrhod is magnificent, always, and here she shines yet again.

I may have just missed it, but is there an archive specifically for Snape/Lupin anywhere? I know there’s the Snape/Lupin Fuh-Q-fest, but that’s only for fest entries. I don’t have the technical know-how to start one if there isn’t, so I’m desperately hoping. Anyone?
Fic:

I need help, people. Or rather, a friend of mine does. I betaed a Snape/Lupin fic for her, but ran into some PoV problems. PoV is not my strong point. I’m better at technical stuff, so I left those parts alone. I’d probably just confuse her more than help on that issue. I’m looking for an experienced second beta for her who is good with PoV. Would anyone be willing to volunteer or recommend someone? It’s her first HP fic, and it’s good, but I’d really hate for her to have to leave it like that.
